2017 nominees

One of the biggest differences between credit unions and banks is that credit unions are owned and run by their members. Instead of stockholders, we have a board of directors and governing committees made up of volunteers who are members of our cooperative.

This year there are open positions on the board and supervisory committee. Here are the nominee biographies.

Board of Directors Candidates

Dick Woo, Chairman, was Director of Finance and Operations at YouthCare, a Seattle-based not-for-profit organization serving homeless youths. He is a former chair of the credit union’s Supervisory and Asset/Liability Management (ALCO) Committees. Dick is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). He has over thirty years of financial management experience in the public and private sectors, including positions with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), Washington Mutual Bank, and the City of Seattle. Dick previously served as director of finance and administrative services for the City of Seattle Housing Authority and CFO for King County’s Community Services Division. Dick is also a member of the Seattle-King County Advisory Council on Aging and Disability Services and serves on the boards of other community not-for-profit organizations.

Joe LePla, Vice Chair is a branding and strategic planning consultant who has worked closely with financial institutions and healthcare organizations for over 38 years including the Mayo Clinic, Merriman, Group Health, Philips Healthcare and Health Alliance Plan. LePla, who also serves on the Salal Asset/Liability Management Committee (ALCO), works at GreenRubino as a principal strategist. Prior to joining GreenRubino, he was an owner of brand consultancy Parker LePla for 19 years. He’s coauthored three books on branding, the most recent being Create a Brand That Inspires: How to Sell, Organize and Sustain Internal Branding in 2012.

His extensive experience also includes working for Cerner and IBM. John earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Wayne State University and a master of arts in Management and Supervision (Healthcare) from Central Michigan University.
