In 2025, many individuals and families faced continued economic pressure. Rising costs, changes in public benefit programs, and shifting job markets created new obstacles for households across our region. At the same time, natural disasters and other unexpected events placed additional strain on local communities.
At Salal, we remain committed to doing good with what we have. While we recognize that we can’t solve every challenge, we continue to show up where we can, step in where help is needed, and invest in efforts that strengthen stability and expand opportunity.

In 2025, our community giving focused on responding to immediate needs and investing in programs that promote long-term stability. From disaster recovery to workforce development, each partnership was guided by a simple goal: help individuals and families build stronger foundations for the future.
Supporting Disaster Recovery
When severe flooding displaced families across Washington State, access to safe housing and emergency resources became an urgent priority. Salal supported the United Ways of the Pacific Northwest Disaster Recovery Fund to help families access temporary housing and immediate relief. This support helped restore stability during a time of uncertainty and ensured that essential resources reached those most affected.
Strengthening Food Access
When SNAP benefits lapsed in 2025, many households experienced unexpected gaps in their food budgets. Food banks across Washington state saw increased demand while navigating limited resources. Salal’s support for Feeding Washington helped strengthen hunger relief systems across the state, giving families access food during a critical period. Reliable access to food supports overall financial well-being and allows families to focus on work, school, and long-term goals.
Expanding Access to Care
Access to healthcare remains a key factor in financial stability. That’s why Salal supported Neighborcare Health, which provides medical and dental care through neighborhood and school-based clinics across Seattle and on Vashon Island. Through sliding-fee programs and insurance assistance, Neighborcare works to ensure patients are not turned away due to inability to pay. This support helps remove barriers to care and strengthens the health and well-being of our broader community.
Removing Barriers to Community Healthcare Access
Salal Credit Union partners with HealthPoint to support the Community Connection Fund, a program that helps patients meet essential needs that fall outside traditional health care coverage. By funding items such as emergency groceries, transportation to appointments, household necessities, health monitoring devices, and temporary phone access, the Fund helps individuals and families stabilize their daily lives so they can better focus on their health. Through this partnership, Salal and HealthPoint work together to strengthen overall community well-being by addressing the real-life challenges that impact patient care.
Investing in Workforce Development
Building financial stability often begins with access to meaningful employment. In 2025, Salal supported GRID Alternatives, investing in hands-on solar training programs that prepare individuals for careers in the growing clean energy sector. Participants gained practical experience, safety training, and workforce readiness skills designed to open pathways into living-wage jobs. By supporting workforce and skills training, we’re helping create opportunities that benefit both individuals and the broader economy.
