Salal Academy is designed to empower you with concrete, transferable skills in banking software and customer service that can open the door to career opportunities in the financial services industry. The program features classroom-based learning, independent activities, in-branch shadowing, and professional development (including practice job interviews). You’ll leave with the skills and training you need to get hired for entry-level banking positions within the financial industry.
Why Salal Academy?
One of the goals of Salal Academy is to reach people in communities who have traditionally been under-represented in the banking world, letting them know about the many opportunities available in the world of financial services. At Salal Academy, our aim is to make the banking industry more accessible and to cultivate a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve. People from all employment backgrounds are encouraged to apply. In fact, Salal Academy is ideal for individuals who are interested in banking but haven’t worked in the industry before. Location
The Academy features learning in several different settings, including in-person (at our Northgate headquarters, which is a quick walk from the Northgate light rail station), job shadowing in one of our branches, and an online component.
Who’s Eligible?
We value a diverse and inclusive work environment and welcome all applicants. We especially encourage individuals who have an interest in working in the financial industry.
Eligibility Requirements
- Participants must be available for the entire four weeks.
- All in-person classes and events take place within a range of 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Most will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with one in-person event held on either a Monday or a Friday. Participants who complete eight of the nine in-person days will have met the requirements to be eligible for the stipend.
- No previous work experience is required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Participants will need to complete a background check.
- Participants need to have access to a computer, laptop, or mobile device with dependable Wi-Fi, or be able to get online at a library.
- For stipend payment, participants will need a social security number. (Note: in the future we hope to be able to invite participants with ITINs.)
