Having diversity in the banking industry is a win for the entire community. A diverse team at a financial institution promotes representation, drives economic growth, leads to more inclusive services, and creates jobs. It can also cultivate more accessible and inclusive services that are tailored to the needs of a diverse community.
Salal Academy was created to help to realize this vision of a diverse financial industry workforce. The Academy is an immersive job-prep training program designed for people in our community who are interested in exploring a career in banking. Best of all, you’ll get paid to learn. Participants get a $1,000 stipend when they complete the program.
Salal Academy isn’t just a job-shadow program—it’s a foot in the door. Through classroom-based learning, independent activities, in-branch training, and professional development (including practice job interviews), you’ll leave the program with the technical and soft skills training you need to get hired for positions such as teller, personal financial representative (PFR), and universal banker. And if you decide you’d like to work for Salal, you’ll already have many of the essential skills you need to succeed.

One of our goals with Salal Academy is to reach people in communities who have traditionally been under-represented in the banking world, letting them know about the many opportunities available in the world of financial services. Through the Salal Academy program, we aim to lower barriers of entry to the banking industry, while encouraging a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. People from all employment backgrounds are encouraged to apply. In fact, Salal Academy is ideal for individuals who are interested in banking but haven’t worked in the industry before.
A Career Path, Not Just a Job
Here’s another great benefit of Salal Academy. If you decide you’d like to work for Salal once you finish the program, you’ll already have a head start. Salal is dedicated to investing in our employees. In 2023, 20.4% of our employees were promoted or transferred into a new role. Career development opportunities include tuition reimbursement, paid certifications and conferences, and industry-specific classes.
